One-off writing sessions on Zoom, led by special guest tutors
The most precious thing we can give our writing is time - but that can be the trickiest thing to find. So, in the Writing Room spirit of helping writers get what they need, we’ve enlisted some very special writer-tutors to give you a moment in the middle of the day to explore, experiment and focus.
There will be two Take A Moment sessions each term. Each session will revolve around a different kind of ‘moment’, chosen and given its own unique spin by the tutor to guide and inspire you. You can respond in whatever form you're writing in, be that poetry, fiction or life writing.
You’ll think, write, and re-dedicate yourself to your words in the company of fellow writers who are all seeking ‘a moment’ too. The sessions are designed to get ideas flowing for you to keep developing beyond the hour. Bring an open mind and heart, and quite possibly a sandwich or two!
All levels welcome.
These sessions welcome writers at all levels and writing in all disciplines. They are designed so that a fiction writer, a memoirist and a poet equally can use the prompts to produce new and exciting material.
Also listed here are our occasional author talks on subjects every writer needs to be aware of, for example, our Writing Difference 'Long Lunch' workshop, with Hannah Lowe, next happening in November, and really worth making the time for.

A Moment of Unravelling
A moment of unravelling: what happens when we come undone? In this reflective hour of guided writing, we’ll explore the relationship between falling apart and finding clarity, untangling stories that stretch across time. Writing Difference
How do we write characters whose lives differ markedly from our own — in race, class, gender, culture, or lived experience — without causing harm or reinforcing stereotypes? And should we even try? This workshop will explore the ethical and creative challenges of writing across difference. We’ll look at examples from contemporary literature, discuss questions of voice, authority, and accountability, and reflect on the intentions and responsibilities of the writer. Through short writing exercises and discussion, we’ll consider how curiosity, research, humility, and imagination can help us write with care and integrity. This is a reflective, exploratory session suitable for writers at any stage.
Many people are under-represented in the writing world as a result of their socio-economic background, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, age or disability. Writing Room is a welcoming online home for ALL creative writers (18+). Come and join us!
