Welcome to Writing Room...

We’re really pleased you’re taking a look at what we have to offer, whether you’re just beginning your writing journey or are looking for support, expertise and camaraderie en route.

We’re all about giving you writing room in the way that works best for you. Many of our courses and drop-ins started life as suggestions from our students, so we know we’re delivering what writers need.

Our regulars tell us they love our courses and drop-ins because they’re a great balance of tangible advice, practical exercises and truthful feedback sensitively delivered – with lots of warmth, fun and laughter included too! Writing can be a solitary experience and finding the room to share time and ideas with a like-minded community makes a world of difference.

You'll see in the individual course descriptions that many of our options specify 'All levels of writer welcome'. On these courses we work with all kinds of writer, whether that's first time creative writers, or people returning to writing after a break, or people who write regularly. We find that this diversity contributes to the richness of the experience for everyone, and we have seen time and time again that we can all learn from each other, no matter where we are on our writing journey.

We hope you enjoy exploring our website. If you need guidance, just drop Kate our Programme Director a line to find out more. You can email her at kate@writingroom.org.uk or by clicking here if you use Mail. Kate will ask a bit about your writing life to date so she can help suggest the right Writing Room home for you, wherever you and your words currently find yourselves.

ZOOM IN YOUR OWN HOME

It's very comfortable to Zoom in while being in your own home. It was the most enjoyable thing I have done for a long time. It helped me to sound out my writing while being given constructive criticism.

I NEVER FEEL JUDGED

It deals very well with the fact that classes are attended by complete beginners / novices and accomplished / experienced writers. I never feel judged and most of the examples and exercises are inclusive of minoritised community writers.

COMMUNITY THAT BUILDS

It feels like a writing community rather than separate courses. The costs are low compared with other options and I hope that means that it's more accessible. The mix of ages is good.
